The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART), is the public transit authority responsible for the planning and construction of the Honolulu rail transit system for the City and County of Honolulu.  The rail system, called Skyline, is the first fully automated, driverless urban light metro system in the U.S. and is the largest public infrastructure project in the history of Hawaii.  Considerable work is in progress to extend the system past the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and into downtown Honolulu, representing an 18.9-mile fixed-guideway rail system with 19 stations. It is an exciting time to be at HART, as the first segment of the rail system is open to the public.

HART seeks a dedicated self-starter to join our Quality Assurance and Quality Control team as Quality Engineer. Under direction of the Director of Quality Assurance and Quality Control, the position is responsible to assist with implementing HART’s Quality Management Plan (QMP) and will provide substantive professional, technical, and leadership assistance to ensure the QMP meets the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) requirements.

These positions perform professional engineering functions as a primary work assignment. Applications are being accepted descending to the Engineer I in the event of recruiting difficulties.

Duty Summary

Grade-Level Standards and Distinguishing Characteristics:

Grade I: Performs routine professional engineering work in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of engineering projects; assists in preparing designs, plans, specifications, estimates and reports; and performs other duties as required.

Grade II: Performs routine professional engineering work requiring some judgment and experience in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of engineering projects; assists in preparing designs, plans, specifications, estimates and reports; and performs other duties as required.

Grade III: Performs moderately difficult professional engineering work in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of engineering projects; prepares designs, plans, specifications, estimates and reports; and performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements for the Class

Grade I: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty.

Grade II: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty and one year of non-registered professional engineering experience.

Grade III: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty and two years of non-registered professional engineering experience.

License Requirement: None.

Physical Requirement

Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties.

Work Schedule and Location

  • Monday – Friday, 8-hour shift.
  • The work for this position is conducted in the HART offices, located in Honolulu, Hawaii 96813.  No telecommuting is allowed.
  • HART does not cover any relocation costs.  Must be able to reliably commute or relocate by first day of employment.
