HART Completes Second Mile of Elevated Rail Guideway

Crews in East Kapolei have completed the first two miles of elevated guideway for the Honolulu rail transit project, HART announced today.
“Rail construction continues to go gangbusters on the Ewa Plain,” said Mayor Kirk Caldwell. “HART has finished the second mile of the elevated guideway, and we are marching forward to complete the project that was promised to the people of Oahu in order to provide an alternative to sitting the some of the worst traffic congestion in the nation. We will continue to report the good news when we reach important milestones such as this, just as we will continue to openly discuss finances and how to fully fund the completion of the project.”

The two miles of completed guideway is the equivalent of 84 spans. HART so far has also constructed 140 columns that will support the elevated guideway.

HART Board Chairman Ivan Lui-Kwan said, “We continue to work hard in creating a rail transit system that will better the lives of residents by having them spend less time in traffic and more quality time at home with their families.”

As rail column work gradually moves from the Ewa Plain into the neighborhoods of Waipahu and Pearl City, HART Executive Director and CEO Dan Grabauskas asked the public for their patience and understanding during the upcoming construction. Other rail-related work also underway includes construction of the guideway over the H-1 Freeway near the H-1/H-2 merge, and the rail operations center in Waipahu.

“For the safety of the workers and traveling public, we ask the drivers to be mindful of our crews stationed along Farrington and Kamehameha highways, the H-1 Freeway and other roads as part of the rail work,” Grabauskas said.
