The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation and contractor Shimmick/ Traylor/Granite Joint Venture today announced that the first set of support structures for the Honolulu Rail Transit Project’s “Airport Guideway & Stations” section are now under construction.
The support structures are the first to be built in the 5.15 mile segment that begins just south of Aloha Stadium in Halawa and runs just past the Middle Street Transit Center in Kalihi. The Airport Guideway will feature four of the projects’ twenty-one stations including Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, Lagoon Drive, and the Middle Street Transit Center.
“We are very excited to see these columns set in place,” said HART’s Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Robbins. “Construction momentum continues with this milestone as we move the project forward.”
Contractor STG will build a total of 234 columns in the Airport section of the Project. Completion of the guideway and the stations in the section is expected in late 2021.
