HART Statement Regarding Federal Funding
(Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011) – HART Interim Executive Director and
CEO Toru Hamayasu issued the following statement in response to
Sen. Daniel K. Inouye’s announcement regarding federal funding for
the rail project:
“We are pleased to hear the news about the available federal
funds. Senator Inouye and our entire congressional delegation have
worked tirelessly to make this happen and we are truly grateful. We
understand that Honolulu is a strong candidate for this
appropriation. This also underscores the fact that both
Congress and the White House recognize the importance of rail
transit as a green, effective and efficient transportation option
during these tight economic times. The project remains on track in
terms of meeting the deadlines and guidelines in obtaining our
Full-Funding Grant Agreement and we will continue to work hard to
make that happen. In addition, our GET revenue for the last two
quarters has come in higher than we had projected, which positions
us well to complete the project.”
