Mahalo to HART Team Transit for volunteering at two events to commemorate and help celebrate Memorial Day by participating in “Volunteer Work Day at the Zoo” and the “Sew a Lei” this past weekend with our sister departments and the community.
HART donated 15 leis (plumeria and orchid) and a bag of fresh pukenikeni flowers for the Mayor’s Ceremony on Monday, May 31, and Sunday, May 29, for the Boy Scouts Good Turn Event. Scout Units decorated and placed lei upon 38,000 graves at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Pūowaina (Punchbowl) on Memorial Day. HART was grateful to donate lei and flowers and join in the activities to make leis to honor the men and women who served in the United States Armed Forces.
In addition, on Saturday, May 28, HART volunteers planted more than 50 trees and shrubs for the Honolulu Zoo. The Honolulu Zoo partnered with the non-profit organization Bizgenics and their Project Lemon Tree initiative, which provided 20 citrus trees, including Meyer and Lisbon lemons, Tahitian and Yuzu limes, kumquats, calamansi, grapefruits, oranges, tangerines, and jabongs. The efforts included planting shrubs along a walkway fronting some of the bird exhibits, loading compost into buckets that zookeepers can use during planting, and sweeping up leaves near the zoo’s stage area. helping improve and create healthy habitats for animals of the Honolulu Zoo.
Mahalo to the HART Team Transit volunteers for participating in these beautification efforts!
