HART CEO and Executive Director Dan Grabauskas answers community questions about rail transit.
QUESTION:
I see HART’s first train cars have been delivered. Will people be able to walk through all four cars of a HART train?
DAN GRABAUSKAS:
Yes. Honolulu will be the first city in the country to have open gangway trains. HART’s passengers will be able to enter any of the 12 doors on the four cars of the train and walk through the entire train. Open gangways allow for increased capacity. If it is crowded, passengers can move through the train to find a seat or a place to stand. They’ll also be able to move easily to those locations on the train where they can hang their bicycles or store their luggage. Passengers will also find it easier and more convenient to board and exit the train cars at their stop.
