Honolulu Ranks 7th in National Transit Savings Study
As students head back to school in droves and traffic
congestion once again consumes the H-1 Lunalilo Freeway, American
Public Transportation Association released its August 2014
Transit Savings Report that shows Honolulu ranks 7th in
the nation for savings when using mass transit.
According to APTA’s report, Honolulu residents who choose
to use transit rather than driving can save $11,774 annually. That
annual savings takes into account the cost of owning and operating
a vehicle, including car payments, fuel costs, insurance, parking
and vehicle service and maintenance expenses.
Honolulu has been consistently ranked in the
top 10 cities in the U.S. for public transportation, largely due to
its award-winning bus system. Once rail is fully operational in
2019 and integrated with TheBus, island residents will experience
one of the best multimodal transit systems in the
nation.
The combined bus/rail service will be fast, convenient and
reliable. And commuters can sit back and enjoy the ride, instead of
fighting traffic congestion.
