(HONOLULU)- Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) contractor Nan, Inc. plans to accelerate its utility relocation work on Kamehameha Highway and Dillingham Boulevard between Middle Street and Mokauea Street beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24 at 8:30 a.m.
The work is consistent with the COVID-19 Emergency Order issued yesterday by the Office of the Mayor, which allows for the performance of any work on Essential Infrastructure, including public works construction.
Traffic along Dillingham Boulevard, only between Middle Street and Mokauea Street, will be restricted to one lane in each direction 24 hours a day, seven days a week. No left turns from Kamehameha Highway and Dillingham Boulevard onto cross streets will be permitted in the work zone. Left turns from cross streets onto Kamehameha Highway and Dillingham Boulevard will be allowed. This traffic control is expected to remain in place for the next several months.
Access to Dillingham Boulevard businesses and residences will be maintained, as will City bus service. Pedestrian access will be maintained, although there may be some detours. Special duty police officers will be present to ensure public safety and to assist with traffic flow through the area. Motorists are advised to expect delays, observe posted informational signs and speed limits and use caution when proceeding through the project construction zone.
The construction work includes relocation of numerous above-ground and underground utilities to clear a path for the elevated guideway and support columns. The roadway itself will eventually be widened.
Controlled access is planned for the rest of Dillingham Boulevard up to Kaaahi Street in two additional phases over the next few months. Additional advance notices will be provided.
